On 27 May, an extraordinary evening of Polish culture awaits at the legendary Cinema São Jorge in Lisbon. The screen will feature the new film “The Hourglass Sanatorium” directed by the Quay Brothers, based on the prose of Bruno Schulz. This surreal, visually refined adaptation had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in 2024. The film is co-produced by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
Following the screening, there will be a concert by Bester Quartet featuring acclaimed vocalist Grazyna Auguscik, performing pieces from their album inspired by the film and Schulz’s literary world. The performance will offer a unique blend of jazz, klezmer, and improvisation – a musical journey into the melancholy and dreamlike atmosphere so characteristic of the author of The Cinnamon Shops.
